Cortez Street Renovation

The project included the restoration and renovation of a four unit residential building in the Historic Ukrainian Village neighborhood of Chicago. After the Second World War, several of the units had been altered to serve as a rooming house for Ukrainian immigrants. The work restored the four apartments to original two- and three-bedroom configurations. Kitchens and bathrooms as well as electrical systems were modernized. An Owner’s Unit was also introduced on the upper floor.

Traditional features of the spaces were maintained and restored including claw-foot tubs, built-in hutches, plaster finishes and wood flooring. The introduction of salvaged fixtures helped to maintain the traditional, vintage appeal of the spaces.
